يطرح القسم كافة المواد الصيدلانية والطبية والحيوية لأجل عمل برنامج مواكب وفريد للطالب وجعله متميزاً مؤهلاً لدور الصيدلاني بسوق العمل الاردني والعربي والعالمي، ويضم القسم كادراً أكاديمياً متميزاً ذو كفاءة وخبرة عالية في مجال العلوم الصيدلانية.

ويهتم القسم في مجال البحث العلمي للعلوم الصيدلانية حيث يوفر مختبرات حديثة لإجراء البحوث في مجال الإختصاص لطلبة البكالورويس والدراسات العليا.

 قسم الصيدلة السريرية:

يطرح القسم المواد المساعدة للصيدلي للقيام بدوره في الرعاية الصحية الشاملة للمريض في داخل المستشفى وخارجه من خلال متابعة النظام الدوائي للمريض في الحالات المرضية المختلفة وايجاد الأنظمة المناسبة وذلك بالتعاون مع الطبيب المعالج. 

ويضم القسم كادراً اكاديمياً متخصصاً في مجال الصيدلة السريرية وكذلك مختبرات حديثة لمساعدة الطالب للالمام بذلك.

This course to learn correct laboratory technique, and get hands-on experience and working knowledge of the basic laboratory techniques are invaluable to many fields of science such as: the use of balances, pipettes, identification of chemicals properties, determining the empirical formula, concentration, heat of reaction and molecular weight.







علوم حياتية عامة

General Biology (609101) is an obligatory course for all Pharmacy and Nursing Students at Isra University.  During this course the students will be introduced to the major topics of General Biology including the large biological molecules and water. Moreover, they will study about the eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells and the biological membranes. The cell division types and mechanisms will be discussed. And an introduction to Botany and Genetics will be also covered during this course.



General Biology Lab

Practical General Biology (609103) is a practical obligatory course for Pharmacy students , in which the students are expected to spend three practical hours per week in the lab of Practical General Biology. The students will be introduced to most of the fields of biological sciences. After they learn how to use and handle the light microscope, they learn how to prepare a simple wet mount. Then they learn the names and functions of the cells' constituents. Afterwards, they perform experiments to get some knowledge about the chemical and physical properties of the cells. Moreover, they get some information about the cell divisions, the enzymes and the metabolic processes. Plant organs and tissues are also covered in this course.



Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry

This course provides students with a very important knowledge of the IUPAC naming of the organic compounds, structures, functionality and reactivity of organic molecules. Also the course allows understanding the main reactivity of the functional groups present in biological compounds and drugs and the major synthesis reactions.

Human Anatomy

This course aims introducing the students to anatomical terminology surface anatomy, types of tissues and all body systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive and endocrine systems. This course will integrate human gross and microscopic anatomy with functional morphology.


Practical Anatomy and Histology

 Practical Anatomy and Histology (501212) is a practical course, in which the students are expected to spend three practical hours per week in the lab of Anatomy and Histology. They are going to learn the anatomical terminology and the anatomical planes of the body. They will be also introduced to the anatomy of the human body systems; Skeletal, Muscular, Nervous, Cardiovascular,Digestive, Respiratory and Urogenital systems. Moreover they will learn the histology of the epithelial and connective tissues.

Pharmaceutical analytical chemistry

To provide the students a good background in those chemical principles that are important in analytical chemistry. This course aims to give the student enough information about how to judge the accuracy and precision of experimental data by application of statistical methods. In addition, this course will introduce the student to a wide range of techniques that are useful in modern analytical chemistry, and develop the skills needed to solve analytical problems in a quantitative manner.

The purpose of this one semester course is to provide students with the fundamental knowledge of human pathophysiology that will be a part of an essential foundation for their future professional studies.

It will cover the central concept of the general pathophysiology of all organ systems, as well as the main concepts of cell injury, and pathophysiology of metabolism.

This science aids the pharmacists in their attempt to predict the solubility, stability, compatibility and biological action of drug products. As a result of this knowledge it will help in development of new drugs and dosage forms as well as, in improvement of various modes of administration.


Practical Physical

This course provides students with an introduction to the knowledge of physical pharmacy principles. It provides student basic knowledge of  states of matter and solubility terms and distribution phenomena. This course is concerned with basic knowledge of kinetics, rates and orders of  reactions, and accelerated stability studies. It will cover subject of diffusion and  dissolution. It will introduce students to interfacial phenomena, adsorption concepts, and applications of surface -active agents. It will introduce rheology and material classification according to  rheological properties.

Chemistry of natural products

Phytochemistry is a branch of pharmacy, and more specifically, a branch of pharmacognosy that relates to chemistry (qualitative and quantitative analysis by chemical and phytochemical methods) of individual compounds or groups of compounds present in products of basic reprocessing of medicinal plants, herbs or plant raw material. Phytochemistry relates to extraction of active compounds from herbs, their cleaning, isolating, and chemical analyzing (sublimation, distillation, fractional crystallization, chromatography and spectrometry methods) but also biosynthesis of main primary and secondary metabolites (enzymes, carbohydrates, fats and fatty acids, aromatic compounds, amino acids, peptides and proteins, isoprenoids) and their therapeutic uses.



Natural Products Chemistry Practical

Industrial Pharmacy

 The course starts with teaching pharmaceutical processes such as milling, drying, mixing and sterilization.  Then the second part is focused on tablet manufacturing and coating processes and extended release dosage forms.



Practical Industrial pharmacy

The main objective of this course is to provide the students with the theoretical background and practical experience relating to flowability of powder, mixing of powder, size reduction & size analysis processes of powders, preparation of effervescent granules. Also to prepare tablets by two methods: direct compression & wet granulation, and to assess the quality control tests of tablets. Students will also perform hard gelatin capsule filling & quality control tests for capsules.




Medicinal Chemistry I

This course introduces students to medicinal chemistry of drugs with special emphasis on the drug interactions with different biological targets in relation to biological activity. The structure activity relationship is fully explained. The course covers the medicinal chemistry of drugs acting on the central nervous system (CNS), peripheral nervous system (ANS), cardiovascular system, antihistaminic and antiulcer agents.

This course will emphasize the structure-activity relationship of various pharmaceutical compounds, and explain some simple approaches of their preparation. The course covers the medicinal chemistry of the following classes of drugs: antibacterial antibiotics, cancer therapy, antiviral agents, analgesics, anti-infective agents and antimalaria agents.

The purpose of this course is to understand therapeutic drug actions and the rationale for using drugs to treat disease.  This will be achieved through providing a foundation in the basic principles of pharmacology, neurophysiology and neuroanatomy and synaptic transmission. This course will also describe key features of major neurotransmitter systems, including the catecholamines, serotonin, acetylcholine, glutamate and GABA. Also, this course discusses theories and mechanisms of drug addiction and psychopathology. Finally, neurodegenerative disorders, major substances of abuse as well as drugs used to treat mental illness willbe  addressed.



Medicinal Chemistry Practical

The purpose of this course is to understand therapeutic drug actions and the rationale for using drugs to treat disease. Systems to be covered in this

course include the cardiovascular system, the endocrine system, drugs

used in inflammation, drugs used in management of respiratory disorders, drugs used in managing skin disorders and drug acting on

the gastrointestinal tract.


Clinical Biochemistry

The purpose of this course is to study endogenous substances, drugs & chemicals that have actions significant for the health & well- being of man;

1- drugs used in chemotherapy of infection & cancer, hormones & their antagonists, immunosuppressant agents, 

2-Nutritional support products and drugs for obesity.

3-In this part of pharmacology students study drugs affect:

Drug Use during Pregnancy and Lactation, Neonates, Children and Geriatrics pharmacology,

4- drugs for patients with renal and hepatic diseases,

5-drugs Interactions and adverse drug reactions.



Biopharmacy and pharmacokinetics

 The intent of this course is to provide the student with a basic intuitive understanding of the principles of pharmacokinetics and biopharmaceutics and how these principles, along with the equations presented in each chapter, can be applied to achieve successful drug therapy. the application of pharmacokinetic principles and equations are illustrated by providing the student with problem sets and problem-solving exercises, complete with keys, at the conclusion of each chapter. This approach will enable the reader to become adept at solving pharmacokinetic problems arising in drug therapy and to understand the applications and utility of equations in clinical practice. Derivations of key equations have been included to show their origins.

This course provides students with a very important knowledge of the in the design and development of new pharmaceutical agents based on the available information related to the structure activity relationships, the physicochemical characteristics, pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamice properties of drugs. Finally, the binding of drugs to the receptors active sites will be studied.

 1.      Able to evaluate toxic materials and compare them on the basis of their LD50 values.

2.      Able to distinguish between toxins on the basis of their biochemical mechanism of action and specific target organs.

3.      Well oriented in different well known toxins in terms of mechanism of toxicity, clinical symptoms after exposure, and prognosis.

4.      Well oriented in some common medication toxicity in terms of mechanism of toxicity, clinical symptoms after exposure, prognosis and management.

5- familiar with toxicity related clinical case reports



Pharmacology and Toxicology Lab

 This subject deals with experiments that explore the pharmacological activity of drugs as well as their toxicity using experimental animals. It also involves some of the pharmacokinetic properties of these drugs. This can be done in the following steps: handling the experimental animals, examine the normal behavior and characteristics and the route of drug administration to each drug. How to calculate the dose of the drug used, examine the pharmacological activity of each classes, performing a report after each experiment includes the result and the comment concerns to that experiments. Also this subject deals with poisons that cause harmful effects to the living organism. This includes the following items: study the source of poisons or toxic agent, its absorption, distribution, as well as its metabolism. Classification of toxic agents according to the target organs that may be effected by these toxicants Examination of chemical toxicant according to exposure or specific use categories. Accordingly, it deals with toxicant found in air , soil , water, food, and the work place as well , chemicals encountered  in specific use categories such as pesticides, drugs, and solvent. Measurement of toxicant, prevention of toxicity and treatment of this toxicity were also taught.

 This course covers the important aspects of pharmaceutical biotechnology as a modern field of science, including: recombinant DNA technology and other specific molecular techniques. The processes of pharmaceutical production and the economic consideration that should kept in mind in this field.

this course gives the pharmacist who has to provide patient pharmaceutical care or supplying drug information to other health care professionals a good understanding of the pathophysiology and therapeutic interventions necessary for cure and palliation. Therefore, the course describes common disease states, diagnosis, prognosis, therapeutic objectives with emphasis on pharmaceutical care management. The pathophysiological rationale of drug therapy and problem associated with the use of drugs in disease states will be discussed. The role of a pharmacist in the provision of optimal patient care through monitoring of patient's drug therapy is emphasized. Area covered include; the therapy of cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, endocrine and hepatic.

This course is intended to provide a comprehensive overview for the pharmacy students about pharmacy legislations applied in Jordan, in order for the students to deal with different scenarios regarding laws, they face in their profession.




Pharmacy Practice

This course aims to develop interpersonal skills in pharmaceutical care and pharmacy practice in the community sector. The course will discuss various topics such as the definition of pharmacy practice and communication skills in pharmacy, medication errors and treatment related problems, the role of pharmacist as drug expert in interviewing and counseling the patient on the use of their medications, OTC drugs and finally brief description about some classes of OTC drugs.

The course is divided into two parts; the prescheduled three hours weekly and an internal lab of 13 practical sessions in the simulated pharmacy during which the students will be introduced to prescription case studies and different medications according to systems' classification. The training at the simulation pharmacy will of an average of six hours weekly, distributed as two hours three days a week based on the students free time and scheduled not to exceed 6 hours weekly.

At the simulation pharmacy, student will be encouraged to use their clinical knowledge and skills to manage patients, collaborate with other health care providers to provide cost effective care and educate patients and their families on the correct way to administer medications.

The course generally discusses cosmetic preparations (cosmeceuticals) with regards to their rationale, usage and applications. Topics will cover structure and functions of skin and hair, disorders of skin and hair, formulation and manufacture of a wide range of cosmetic preparations as well as their evaluation and relevant tests. This information is important for a better understanding and patient counseling about choice and limitations of cosmetics.

course will provide overview of fundamental statistical and pharmaceutical medical statistical principles. A series of workshop sessions will be interwoven with lectures and discussions using different type computer programs to serve as foundation for reading and interpreting statistical materials and terms such as p-value, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, power, sample size, and variability.  At the conclusion of the course, students should be able to effectively communicate with statisticians and better understand statistical material in medical research, reports, journals and clinical trials.

 The purpose of this course is to provide pharmacy students   a current comprehensive overview of relevant information and concepts involved in providing drug information service in their future place of work about information to optimize drug use, and to develop a systematic approach in answering health care staff enquiries.



Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms

This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of the factors that must be considered in designing the most efficacious dosage form of a drug biological, physical, chemical and biochemical consideration. Mechanism of transport of drugs through biological membrane the importance of the physical-chemical properties and the biopharmaceutical characteristics of the drug in the selection of its dosage form. Novel approaches to designing the most efficacious oral and non- oral dosage forms

This course exposes the students to the current good manufacturing practice techniques of quality control of the following: the injections, solutions, suspension, emulsions, suppositories, topical preparations, transdermal therapeutic system, aerosols, and tablets. Packaging and labeling control, holding and distribution and laboratory control are to be studied. The current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) of ”Building and Facilities” as well as, “Sterile and aseptic manufacturing facilities and design”
