Abstract | The Al Jizah municipality building has been chosen to study the possibility of installing sustainable technologies in order to improve the efficiency, comfort, and safety of the building. Thus, the primary focus of this research is the implementation of an active smart building system to transform an existing government building into a smart building and determine whether or not the estimated cost is reasonable. The thesis takes a distinct approach to methods. It starts the process of gathering data to find every technology that may be used to achieve sustainability. Next, it uses the Jordan Green Rating Assessment Tool for Existing Buildings criteria (Jo-GRATEB), to determine the rating score of the Al-Jiza building's current state. To determine the weight and score of each recognized device, analysis is done on the created and validated questionnaire responses. Ultimately, Excel programming is developed to determine which devices are the greatest fit for the municipality's budget based on their weighting and saving scores. Finally, using the Jo-GRATEB, the rating score for the updated Al-Jiza building scenario is recalculated. The building's total score was 9.04, which is less than 50% (Level D), failing to meet the greenest level of certification requirement. The re-assessment of the building was contingent on the realization of two scenarios. The first is based on the proportion of savings achieved by the selected sustainable technologies, while the second is based on their score. Both scenarios provide the identical technologies to be deployed, resulting in equal savings (398.525%) and rating scores (73.11%, level B). The researcher also analyzes the technologies required for level A of the certification criterion, identifying a total of 929 technologies with a score of 23.202, equivalent to 80.006%. Implementing the identified technologies will cost a total of 34,682 JD. The conclusions of this research are intended to benefit any existing building in general and Al-Jiza municipality in specific, in installing sustainable technologies to enhance their green evaluation level of certification criterion to according to Jo-GRATEB grading system. Additionally, green buildings may utilize the established program to determine their certification level and percentage of savings based on the sustainable technologies they hold. |
