Abstract | The construction industry is the biggest contributor to waste generation and consumption in the world. The work focuses on the situation of construction, renovation, and demolition (CRD) waste in Sultanate of Oman. Specifically, the thesis aimed to study the status of CRD waste management in the Sultanate and the challenges facing its recycling. As a starting point, the responsible parties for recycling CRD waste in Muscat were interviewed. It was found that there are two main problems associated with CRD waste recycling: (i) contractors are not separating the CRD waste during or after the construction work. (ii) the consultants force the contractors to use new materials in construction. Once the interviews were done, looking through previous studies was the next step forward in achieving the research objectives. Then, four questionnaires were prepared, and dsrtrbiuied to the selected sample in Muscat - Oman. The selected sample was 384 including public, contractors, consultants, engineers, scientists, university professors, and employees in Muscat Municipality as well as other authorities workers on CRD waste. The questionnaires included three main factors: (i) causes of construction waste in Muscat, (ii) strategies that contribute to increase the CRD waste management efficiency in Muscat, and (iii) difficulties of CRD waste recycling in Muscat. The questionnaire results were analyzed using SPSS software. They were analyzed with regard to the reliability and normality tests. The reliability test was conducted by determining the Cronbach Alpha value, which was between 0.8 and 0.9. According to this standard, the results are satisfactory. Next, the normality test was conducted by determining the Skewness and Kurtosis values. The results were between -1.2 and +2.6 which proves the acceptable normality of the results. Three hypotheses have been built to define the relationship between the suggested strategies and the causes of construction waste in Muscat. In addition, they define the recycling difficulties of CRD waste in Muscat. The relationship was evaluated using inferential analysis. Simple linear regression of each factor with the suggested CRD waste management strategies was determined. It was concluded that there is a statistically significant effect at the significance level of ? ?0.05 for the strategies on the causes of construction waste and recycling difficulties. The P-value was found to be 0.00, which is less than 0.05. This indicates a significant relationship. Finally, correlation values were determined to examine the hypotheses. There was a positive correlation between the strategies and the other factors including (i) causes of construction waste, (ii) internal difficulties, and (iii) external difficulties, with 0.756, 0.127, and 0.855, respectively. The correlation values points out an acceptable relationship, with external difficulties have the highest correlation.
