Abstract | Purpose: Engineering offices are trying hard to develop and improve the procedures related to total quality management, and seek to raise the level of their application in the architectural design process because of their positive impact on them in achieving maximum excellence and survival in the competitive market, and because existence of a weak perception among engineers in the application of total quality management in the architectural design process , this study seeks to know the level of relative importance (the application level) of the factors and tools of total quality management at each stage of the architectural design process in the engineering offices in Amman. Methodology/Approach: The qualitative data study that was conducted formed the basis for collecting quantitative data, through a questionnaire, where 200 questionnaires were distributed to engineering offices in Amman. Moreover, data analysis was conducted using the SPSS Statistics program to find out the level of application of the factors and tools of total quality management at each stage of the architectural design process. Findings: Engineering offices try to increase awareness of quality management in them, be prepared and trained employees, changed and improved their culture and concepts about quality management, take appropriate measures to improve administrative leadership, and keenness to build close relationships with customers and know their needs and translating them into orders that are literally applicable. Research Limitations/Implications: The limitations of the study relate to the context in which this study was conducted, as it only looked at engineering offices in Amman, and in the field of design, meaning that we cannot generalize the results to other communities or other areas such as implementation or maintenance. Practical Implications: The most prominent finding of this study is the realization of engineering offices that gaining competitive advantage, achieving profits and continuity in the labor market lies in preserving their customers, their interest in the satisfaction of engineers, the formation of work teams to help improve their performance, and the continuous improvement of the design process. Originality/Value: The study revealed that working on empowering the engineer and allowing him to create new ideas in the pre-design stage, developing a clear approach to administrative leadership in the schematic design and design development stage, and using total quality management tools in the construction documents stage contributes to raising the level of application of total quality management in engineering offices and also suggest evaluation form for engineering offices to evaluate the architectural design process. |
