Abstract | The building construction industry and housing is one of the most important business fields in Jordan because of the rapid rate of growth in this sector, which created many difficulties in occupational safety, so this industry is suffering from many problems in Construction Safety Management. This study evaluates the safety status in Jordanian building construction projects and identifies the relationship between safety-related factors and building construction injuries. There are plenty of factors affecting the safety of the building construction industry. Due to the overlapping of construction activities on project sites, the large number of workers and different construction project environments, poor control of these safety factors may produce serious injuries. After statistical analysis of the collected data by a questionnaire, the study illustrated that the actual state of safety in 1st degree building construction companies in Jordan considered high level, and 2nd degree companies considered moderate level , and 3rd degree companies considered low level. The study also shows that the following safety-related factors, such as the Building site safety procedures, Workforce human factor , Practical safety measures Safety equipment and PPE and project environment have low statistical correlation with the injuries. Factors such as the company safety policy, rewards and penalties have a moderate relationship with injuries in 1st degree building companies, while Workforce human factor have a high statistical correlation with the injuries and company safety policy have a moderate statistical correlation with the injuries and Building site safety procedures, rewards and penalties Safety equipment and PPE, Practical safety measures and project environment are low statistical correlation with the injuries in 2nd degree companies, while Building site safety procedures, rewards and penalties, Practical safety measures and Safety equipment and PPE have a high statistical correlation with the injuries and company safety policy and Workforce human factor have a moderate statistical correlation with the injuries. The study also provides general recommendations to improve the safety status of building construction projects in Jordan. A site safety management system was developed also to improve the safety status in building construction projects. |
