Abstract | Amman city, the capital of Jordan, is administrated by the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM). The city is divided into 22 administrative regions making up the municipality. The land use planning is a term used for urban planning containing various disciplines that aims to order and regulate land use in an efficient and ethical way, to prevent the conflicts of land use. Managing the development of the land use is government responsibility that represented by master plan and zoning departments of GAM. A vision for the future possibilities of development in neighborhoods, cities, districts, or any defined planning area is provides by a land use plan. The master plan department in GAM prepared a plan, for application in both short and long term that provides development policies, plans, and guidelines for application along priority land use in the city of Amman. The purpose of this study is to develop the selection criteria of the current and the future land use needs and establish well defined land use pattern that is unlikely to change significantly in the near future. To carry out this research a case study was taken at ShafaBadran district to evaluate the current land use pattern in order to develop a more proper expansion for need in land use that will be favorable for this particular district. This research dealt with the out-use lands with a different perspective, with aim to prioritize the industrial, commercial, and agricultural land uses, then comes the residential, and to make sure that all other uses takes the optimum area, and location.
