Abstract | Life cycle cost is defined as the lifespan of a certain project under certain circumstances and conditions which encounter the effect of cost including different aspects such as future additional investment, current project value, and different aspects that will be discussed in this research. The awareness study aims to bring to light the actual status of Life cycle application and awareness of Engineers in Saudi Arabia considering an on-going project, specifically the Metro Riyadh Project to promote a better understanding of the root cause of problem weak application of this method. Additionally, the purpose of the study is to provide insights to the owners and client as well as the Saudi Council of Engineers Communities to commence serious actions towards this case and to locate the weakness between engineers and their knowledge of the Life Cycle. Explanations for presenting the lack of the application for Saudi Arabia projects and Metro Riyadh in Specific is aiming to spread awareness, access to sustainable economic opportunities, and improve the officials to force the implementation of this approach. Application of Life Cycle discussed in this thesis include several limitations to the process optimization including the amount of delay caused for several projects, lack of clear knowledge about the Life Cycle process, and the solution for easier learning portals of Life cycle cost of the application. Moreover, an SPSS data will present the data analysis summary aiming to implement a guide for engineers to motivate owners in considering Life Cycle costs in the planning phase since the time of the CEO is usually limited. In sum 100 engineers with authority to control the application, the received online questionnaire includes 77 engineers completed the questionnaire representing (77%) with 6 participants opted not to complete the whole questionnaire and one participant is expelled because he unified his responses. Hence, there were 70 effective responses valid for analysis purposes. These findings indicate the need for spreading awareness and improving the Saudi Council of Engineers strategy in next projects and providing mentorship for Saudi Engineers for Life Cycle application and process optimization, as well as a need for local government to move towards Life cycle cost. |
