Abstract | The cement industry is one of the main sources of environmental pollution in several regions of the world. This type of industry is among the largest types of construction industries that pose a threat to the environment, especially in terms of air quality and human health. From the extraction of raw materials to the shipping of cement products, there are many risks and hazards that pollute the environment. Therefore, reducing and controlling the risks posed by the cement industry is significant for the preservation of the environment. In Jordan, cement plant projects are known to lack both experience and implementation of risk management strategies. Therefore, the risk management of cement factories in this country should be studied. The aim of this study is to examine the application parameters of the environmental risk management methodology for the mitigated risk accounting of three cement plants in Jordan. Therefore, this study focused on the main risk indicators affecting the type and nature of the environment in which these three factories live, the degree to which these risks affected the environment was studied using the questionnaire technique, main risks posed by the cement industry are also discussed and how to deal with potential environmental risks. In addition, the questionnaire technique was used to examine the extent to which these risks affect the environment. The methodology used the questionnaire technique was found to be an effective way of assessing environmental risks in cement plants. Based on the results obtained from the questionnaire, the environmental risks considered in the present work are, in order of priority: air pollution, noise pollution, electrical risks and consumption, soil pollution, gas emissions, greenhouse effect, generation. of solid and hazardous waste, contamination of water resources, public health effects. In addition, the results showed that elevated levels of risk from air and noise pollution were observed from the three cement plants considered in this study. As a result, the cement industry must undergo various risk management strategies to reduce the intensity of the risk from air and noise pollution. From this study it can be concluded that environmental risk management studies should be applied as they are crucial for mitigating the impact of many sources of risk in cement plants. Therefore, the recommendations of the present study propose to initiate a comprehensive study considering the methods that can ensure a significant level of risk reduction in the cement industry in Jordan. In addition, a study that outlines the risk criteria for cement factories should be conduct. |
