Abstract | It is widely acknowledged that postpartum weight retention (PPWR) is a critical public health domain, as it was classified as one of the most common causes of obesity in women worldwide. Childbearing is an important stage in which excessive gestational weight gain is associated with PPWR. Thus, promoting a healthy lifestyle modification, including implementing a healthy diet and improving physical activities (PAs), among women following childbirth could be considered as a keystone to reduce PPWR. The primary objectives of this study were to assess the effectiveness of lifestyle modifications in reducing PPWR among women in Jordan. Hence, this randomized control study recruited 170 participants from Al-Bashir Hospital. The study hypothesized that women who receive lifestyle modifications, including dietary modification and a PA regimen, will have less PPWR. This study was a randomized controlled trial (RCT) that was held at one site; in this study, the investigator utilized a block size of 4 to allocate the participants to the intervention and control group using a one-to-one ratio. This study used self-reporting questionnaires consisting of two parts: sociodemographic and Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II. The baseline analysis confirmed the successful randomization of participants, ensuring a balanced starting point. Notable differences between the control and intervention groups emerged at baseline for PA (t = 1.34, p ? 0.18) and nutrition (t = 1.10, p ? 0.06). Over the intervention period, the intervention group exhibited significant improvements in PA by 12 weeks (t = 12.44, p ?0.01) and dietary habits at 6 (t = 2.61, p ? 0.04) and 12 (t = 7.86, p ? 0.01) weeks. This study underscores the importance of targeted interventions for postpartum health, emphasizing improvements in PA and nutrition. These findings indicated that tailored, sustained lifestyle changes, especially in the early weeks, are crucial for positive outcomes. This study highlighted the importance of lifestyle modification to reduce the levels of Postpartum weight retention. Encourage healthcare providers to foster effective postpartum weight management based on individualized care plans. Keywords: Postpartum weight retention, physical activities, childbearing. |
