Abstract | Background: In this century, an unprecedented challenge has emerged for human civilization due to microbes' development of antimicrobial resistance as a result of the indiscriminate and irrational use of antibiotics. However, plant-based antimicrobials, including Capsicum annum, have tremendous potential to combat fungal, viral, and bacterial diseases without any known side effects. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effect of Capsicum annuum extracts on methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA). Methods: Three methods were used to extract peppers: the first involved using fresh pepper juice directly on MRSA strains isolated from Jordan using well diffusion technique. The second method included filtering the fresh juice, centrifuging, and applying the supernatant on MRSA strains. Finally, ethyl alcohol extraction of dried pepper was used and applied on MRSA after dissolving in DMSO. Extracts have been tested. Results: Our study showed that there is no significant antimicrobial effect of Capsicum annum on all the strains of MRSA isolated from Jordan. Conclusion: The use of fresh juice or alcoholic extraction of Capsicum annum showed no effect on MRSA isolated in Jordan, but it may have antimicrobial effect on other kinds of bacteria.
