Abstract | This thesis delves into the representation of Afro-American feminism and female empowerment in Toni Morrison's Beloved, focusing on the experiences of African-American women during and after-slavery. The study analyzes the complex dynamics of womanhood, agency, and resilience against the backdrop of historical and racial oppression. The study explores the dynamics of Morrison`s depiction of African-American womanhood in the context of slavery and its aftermath in Beloved. It also examines the key elements of African-American feminism that emerge from the narratives of Sethe and other female characters in the novel. Moreover, study is connected with elucidating the method by which female characters in Beloved reveal the intersections of race, gender, and class. The study also aims to critically analyze the representation of African-American womanhood in Beloved by examining the experiences and struggles of female characters, and by identifying and discussing the key principles and tenets of African-American feminism as reflected in the characters' narratives and interactions. The findings underscore the novel's lasting impact on feminist discourse and the broader understanding of Afro-American experiences. They suggest areas for further research, including comparative studies, deeper intersectional analyses, and considerations of contemporary relevance, to continue exploring the rich themes of Afro-American feminism and empowerment in literature. Keywords: Female empowerment, racial oppression, Womanhood, Slavery, Resilience, Intersectionality. |
