Services
The university library offers various services to its users, including:
Borrowing Service: Available throughout official working hours.
Reserve Shelf Service: Books are placed on the reserve shelf upon request by faculty members through a designated form. These books may be used inside the library or borrowed overnight.
Interlibrary Loan: Borrowing between libraries that are members of the Center of Excellence for Library Services in Private Universities (currently under implementation in collaboration with the center).
Search and Guidance Services: Provided by staff in the reading halls to assist users in locating books and references on the shelves, accessing the periodicals they need, and training them on how to use the electronic catalog. All books are cataloged in the Oracle automated system.
Database and Electronic Library Services: The library includes a computer lab dedicated to academic research and study, allowing access to electronic databases and the automated catalog (Oracle). Students are guided on how to make the most of these services.
The library provides access to a variety of electronic databases, which can be searched both on and off campus through the library’s website.
Note: To access some databases from off-campus, please email library@iu.edu.jo to request the username and password.
New Arrivals Service: The library notifies faculty members and students of newly arrived books via email and announcements on the library website.
Printing and Photocopying Service:
The library offers printing and photocopying services for both paper and electronic materials, in accordance with intellectual property rights. The fee is 50 fils per page. However, research papers and articles from electronic databases can be printed free of charge—up to 150 pages per student per semester.Study Rooms and Seminar Services:
The library features 10 group study rooms available for collaborative learning and lectures, distributed across its three floors. It also houses a meeting room and the King Abdullah II Fund for Development Hall, both equipped with Data Show devices. Additionally, there are individual study and reading areas.Internet Service:
The library offers Wi-Fi access, as well as wired internet on computers in the lab and on dedicated research terminals throughout the library.User Training Services:
This service aims to develop users’ skills in navigating the electronic catalog and introduces them to the library’s various services and subscribed electronic databases through workshops, coordinated with faculty members.Bibliographic Lists and Statistics:
Bibliographic lists and statistics (e.g., number of books, references, borrowing records) are generated using the library’s automated system, either for accreditation purposes or upon request by faculties.Community Service:
In line with the university’s mission to serve the community and foster cooperation with academic, cultural, and training institutions, the library offers the following:Training for library and information science students from public universities
Hosting individual and group visits to introduce visitors to the library’s services and resources
Welcoming school students to learn about the library’s holdings and offerings
A dedicated children’s room equipped with appropriate furniture, books, and stories
A readiness to provide various services to the local community based on mutually agreed guidelines with the Center of Excellence for Library Services in Jordanian Private Universities (currently under implementation).
