ملخص الرسالة
The concept of sustainability expanded to all areas of economic activity including infrastructure projects. Infrastructure projects need to be sustainable, especially the existing ones. However, existing roads in Jordan causing major effect regarding environmental social and economic issues which have not been assessed in terms of sustainability. Therefore, assessing existing roads sustainability is necessary to move forward sustainable development. This research aims to build a sustainability assessment model for existing roads, and then establish a framework in order to be applied in Jordan. In order to develop the sustainability assessment model for existing roads a list of indicators are needed. The list of indicators was first collected from literature review before being evaluated by a group of Jordanians engineers with variance experience in sustainability, using questionnaire. And the indicators were divided to five main categories. A model, based on the evaluated indicators, was established and analyzed. Following that, partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to evaluate the existing road sustainability model that includes five categories. The result confirms that the five categories have a significant, positive impact on the existing road sustainability. Finally, using semi-structured interviews with experts the framework of the model was developed. This study contributed in establishing a way for assessing the existing road sustainability in Jordan and helped competent authorities in achieving sustainable development.
