ملخص الرسالة
Workforce scheduling is a vital problem for effective planning of a project's success. The term is well known in industrial factories, hospitals, banks, and several other fields. However, in construction projects, there is still a lack of use. In general, the objective mainly is two-fold, minimizing the labor wages and maximizing the work progress. Since construction project scheduling is mainly based on the workforce, they must determine their requirements to complete the time plans for the project and reduce the total wages as much as possible This thesis will present integer linear programming models to solve the problem of workforce scheduling in large construction projects using Excel Solver. The idea is to barrow successful models in other fields, modifying these models to fit the requirements in the construction sector as the first step of the solution. The research methodology is based on the use of three different models are considered that describe different work situations of the number of working shifts and labor skills. Literature reviews and mathematical experiments on the case study in Jordan demonstrate the effectiveness of the model. The solution is based on both integer linear programming for a small number of laborers and linear programming for a large number. Two of the considered models are applied to solve hypothesis cases to elaborate the practice of scheduling, while the third is applied for a case study in Jordan. Compared to the present schedule, the model produced a minimum labor cost through optimal workforce scheduling in a large construction project. A central conclusion is that the use of workforce scheduling in the construction sector will provide a means to control the labor wages and the optimal use of them in the sites.
