Factors associated with health literacy and self-care behavipurs among Jordanian diabetic clients attending Jordanian hospitals

Diabetes is a growing global health concern that necessitates ongoing self-care to avoid acute and chronic effects. Additionally, one of the most prevalent medical conditions is diabetes mellitus. Diabetes self-care practices are crucial for controlling the disease, and patient health literacy has a big impact on them. Also in Jordan, gab and little information about health literacy and self -care behavior among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus to find that the aim fof this study is to determine the relationship between health literacy and self-care behaviours among Jordanian patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. A cross-sectional analytic design was used in this study. It was conducted at Ghor Al Safi Governmental hospital, Jordan. the patients included in this study were 170 patient from 203 during the period from April 2022 to October 2022. Data were collected using a self-reporting questionnaire consisting of three parts: demographic and clinical data, Health Literacy Scale, and Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire . Also used the fisher- exact test to find the relation in this study as well as use the Pearson correlation coefficient to fined the association and the correlation between the study variables. About 40% of participant had high level of health literacy, in addition (30%) of them had moderate as well as (30%) of them had low level of health literacy. Moreover (60%) of participant had positive behavior of self-care, while (40%) of them had negative behavior of self-care.There were no statistical significance differences between all items of socio- demographic as well as items of clinical data and (total health literacy as well as self care behavior) among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Finally there were positive correlation between health literacy and self-care behaviors among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Educate patients more about the value of receiving diabetes education in order to maintain better glycemic control and avoid the emergence of complications that would negatively impact their health.
