Dr. Sabreen Halalmeh, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, participated in the introductory workshop for tobacco and smoking control, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in cooperation with the Association of Jordanian Universities for Tobacco and Smoking Control, for the deans of student affairs in Jordanian universities in the auditorium of the late Prof. Dr. Nasser Al-Din Al-Assad on the Ministry's campus.
The workshop included a detailed and introductory explanation of the Association of Jordanian and Private Universities for Tobacco and Smoking Control, which was established in 2015 with the aim of addressing the phenomenon of smoking addiction among students in Jordanian universities and faculties and includes in its membership ten public universities, ten private universities, and one university faculty , and the association seeks to activate the Public Health Law of 2018 and its amendments made in 2017, which stipulated the prohibition of smoking in public places, including universities, through A range of different activities and events organized by the association in its various member universities, such as broadcasting awareness messages using various university media, social media platforms, and the development of clinics to treat addiction to smoking and tobacco, in addition to holding activities aimed at educating university students and faculty members about the danger of smoking and its expected destructive impact in the future on the health system in Jordan, and reviewing the association's strategy in combating smoking in universities, which is in line with the national strategy to combat smoking. In conclusion, all attendees participated in discussing the various mechanisms that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and universities can apply to reduce this phenomenon, where the recommendations reached will be submitted to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to take appropriate decisions on them.
