As part of the faculty of Pharmacy’s ongoing efforts to develop the academic and practical learning experience for its students, the Field Training and Graduation Projects Committee at the College of Pharmacy organized a field visit for the college’s students to Al-Istiqlal Hospital, as part of the “Early Exposure to the Work Environment” program, which aims to enhance communication between students and real professional environments in the health field. The students were accompanied during the visit by Dr. Rani Qasim, a member of the Field Training and Graduation Projects Committee.
The visit aimed to introduce students to the various health services provided by the hospital and the modern medical technologies used in it, and to provide them with a practical experience that contributes to linking what they learn in the classroom with practical reality in a real medical environment.
In this context, Dr. Rani Qassim stressed the importance of this visit for the students, noting that it represents an opportunity to gain practical experience on how to apply pharmaceutical concepts in hospital environments, and the role of pharmacists in providing healthcare. He added that this type of visit enhances students’ readiness to enter the job market after graduation, as it allows them to closely learn about the work environment in hospitals and enhances their awareness of their future career options.
The students were also introduced to the different departments of the hospital, including the clinical pharmacy, which plays an important role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications, and the modern technologies that the hospital relies on to improve medical care. The students expressed their great benefit from the visit, as it gave them the opportunity to interact with real professional practices, and to see the processes that include prescribing medications, directing patients, and administering medical treatments.
