The faculty of Nursing organized its third scientific session on the topic of "Psychological Stress, Meditation, and Mindfulness as a Means of Coping with Daily Life Stress." Professor Ahmed Al-Sakkarat presented and discussed the theoretical aspects, and Dr. Laila Al-Dakkan trained the attendees on how to use "meditation and mindfulness" as a means of coping with daily life stress.
Professor Ahmed Al-Sakkarat pointed out that psychological stress is a natural experience that can help people deal with difficult situations. It has positive effects if its intensity is moderate, but if it is severe and persistent, it can negatively impact mental and physical health. He also highlighted the causes and symptoms of psychological stress and the importance of identifying these symptoms and causes to improve mental health and the ability to cope with daily stress in healthy ways.
Dr. Laila Al-Dakkan pointed out that mindfulness involves being fully present and engaged in the moment, while meditation is a practice used to develop mindfulness. Meditation reduces the tendency to indulge in anxious thoughts and stimulates the relaxation response, which overcomes stress and anxiety by slowing the heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and relieving muscle tension.
The meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Professor Dr. Wafiqa Zahir; the Head of the Advanced Nursing Department, Professor Dr. Ali Al-Amouri; the Assistant Dean for Quality Affairs, Dr. Muhammad Othman; and the majority of the Faculty of Nursing's faculty and administrators. At the end of the meeting, the Dean of the Faculty expressed her deep gratitude and sincere thanks to Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Saqarat and Dr. Laila Al-Dakn for their distinguished efforts in enriching and making the scientific session a success.
