Isra University and Chandigarh University in India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening academic and research collaboration between the two institutions. The agreement establishes a broad framework for partnership across a range of areas, including student and staff exchange, joint supervision of postgraduate research, degree recognition, academic conferences, training workshops, and cultural exchange.
The MoU was signed by Professor Mohammad Mousa Hamed, President of Isra University, and Professor R. S. Bawa, Advisor to Hon’ble Chancellor of Chandigarh University, in the presence of senior academic representatives from both sides. Attendees included Professor Rajan Sharma (Executive Director of the Office of International Affairs at Chandigarh University); Professor Inshad Jumaa (Vice President for Academic Affairs and International Programmes); Professor Mohammad Bani Younis (Dean of the Faculty of Arts); Dr Abdullah Thalji (Faculty Member at the Faculty of Arts); and Dr Mohammad Hasan Makhlouf (Director of the Department of Public and Cultural Affairs) from Isra University.
In his remarks, University president reflected on the rich academic journey of Isra University, outlining its founding, faculties, academic centres, educational programmes, and leading research activity, particularly in the fields of pharmacy, engineering, information technology, and the humanities. He also spoke of the University’s forward-looking vision to strengthen its academic standing both regionally and internationally. The significance of this MoU lies in the strategic opportunities it offers for collaboration in vital areas such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Applied Research, where Chandigarh University’s strong reputation and recognised expertise in these fields make it a particularly valuable partner. This cooperation is expected to support Isra University’s efforts to further develop its technological and engineering programmes, while also creating meaningful academic and research exchange opportunities for both students and faculty members.
The significance of signing this Memorandum is further underscored by the convening of the First Arab-Indian University Presidents' Conference, held in New Delhi in February 2025.during which a cooperation agreement was signed between the Association of Arab Universities and the Association of Indian Universities. This milestone opens new avenues for joint academic and research partnerships between institutions across both regions.
